Calgary psych-rock voyagers Devonian Gardens have released unto the world a new video set to the title track to their debut album, Solar Shifting. Recorded in the secluded forests of Nova Scotia with analog wizard Jay Crocker, the album first came out in digital form last year on Beyond Beyond is Beyond and is now available on compact disc. Watch the cosmically animated video below.

After playing a series of killer shows in The Great North, Devonian Gardens are now embarking on their first tour of the US (dates). This Sunday, they’ll be playing the Beyond Beyond is Beyond Showcase at Mercury Lounge in NYC featuring Steve Gunn, Prince Rupert’s Drops and Worthless with liquid light projections by Drippy Eye. RSVP for that event here.

Dog Gone Presents: Pure X // Andrew Cedermark @ Mercury Lounge 5/14

Each year there’s a handful of albums that provide a soundtrack to a specific time period. Perhaps its a relocation to a new city or a new relationship, a particularly joyful time or a time of hardship—whatever it is, in many of these cases we are often reminded that music will always be our friend, and that friendship becomes an ingrained part of our memories surrounding the time period. For this writer, Pure X‘s Pleasure played accompaniment to a specific and highly reflective time during my days in New York. Putting it on brings me right back to the summer months of 2011 when I was spending a great deal of time by myself, writing in my Lower East Side apartment, strolling aimlessly through the nearby East Village.

So with that said, we’re very psyched to be hosting Pure X at Mercury Lounge next Tuesday as they celebrate the release of their follow-up album, Crawling Up the Stairs (out May 14 via Merok/Acéphale). Former Titus Andronicus guitarist Andrew Cedermark, who has a new album coming out on Underwater Peoples, will be providing support. Follow us on twitter (@doggoneblog) and keep an eye out for a chance to win tickets to the show. Hear a track from Pure X’s new album below and be sure to grab a copy next week.

Jonathan Wilson ~ “Desert Raven” & Ticket Giveaway

Laurel Canyon producer and session man Jonathan Wilson makes his way to New York City this Friday for a show taking place at Mercury Lounge.  Wilson, who is quickly making a name as one of the best live acts on the scene today, churns out lush psych-folk with Garcia meets Gilmour guitar lines and traditional analog recording techniques. In 2011, Wilson released his solo debut, Gentle Spirit, a set of spirited psych-folk tunes (many feature Wilson as the sole performer) that recall some of the Canyon’s past musical inhabitants, and most of which clock in around  six minutes long.

Check out the video for the highly impressive “Desert Raven” (one of the best songs in years) below and read on for details on how you can win tickets to see Wilson this Friday at Mercury Lounge.
